Tulsa, Okla – The second of the four major championships this golf season officially kicks off on Thursday morning at the 2022 PGA Championships in the Southern Hills. With the disappearance of star-studded field and long-time rival and current champion Bill Mickelson, led by 2007 PGA Championship winner Tiger Woods, the Skymaker Trophy is set to change hands without a drop to the storylines.
Rory McIlroy, the 65-year-old under 65, put himself at the forefront of that conversation to capture the Clubhouse presence on the morning wave on Thursday. The two-time PGA Championship winner has grinded the tough conditions of converting seven birds into a course he has played so hard (probably to continue) and has integrated himself into the inner path to winning the event for the third time. So the conditions are stable). Woods struggled in his approach game and won the opening round of 4-over 74, deciding at the start of the week that he did not have the same brilliance as his teammate.
McLroy set the bar for the field early but world number 1, 2 and 3 – Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm and Collin Morikawa – have just started their first round. The afternoon wave should have had the chance to threaten the top of the Leaderboard, giving an exciting end to the first day in the Southern Hills.
